FREE LEARNING RESOURCES DURING COVID-19: Social distancing and stuck indoors? Several companies are providing classes, content, and courses for free amidst the coronavirus, including Moz Academy, HubSpot, Ivy League Schools, Scholastic, and more. We’ve even searched the web and found an entire spreadsheet full of resources for higher education about bringing both classes and operations online during the coronavirus.

Why you should care: If you have downtime, why not improve your marketing repertoire? Earn a social media certificate, learn a new coding language, or better understand a marketing channel you think could serve as the next great recruiting tactic. There are plenty of free resources out there thanks to COVID-19, so take advantage and add to your marketing arsenal.

FACEBOOK AD SPECS AND SIZES IN 2020: So you’ve drafted up the perfect ad copy for your next Facebook ad only to learn moments later that the copy gets cut off by Facebook’s “read more” separator. Now, your ad doesn’t have the same look or feel and you’re back to the drawing board. It happens.

Why you should care: Enrollment marketers running Facebook Ads can save time by bookmarking HubSpot’s Facebook Ad Specs article, outlining the most up-to-date specs for ads from Facebook Stories to Sponsored Messages to Carousel Ads. It’ll help you write ad copy at the right length and crop images to the right size on the first attempt.

IT'S BEEN OVER A YEAR SINCE FACEBOOK’S BIG ALGORITHM CHANGE; WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED?: Today’s Facebook algorithm looks way different than it did in March 2016. After the CambridgeAnalytica scandal, Facebook changed its News Feed algorithm which resulted in a drop in engagement with Business Pages by as much as 50%. In 2019, Facebook made yet another big algorithm change to its News Feed with the goal of improving the relevance of content shown to users. As a result, engagement with Business Pages actually rebounded to pre-2016 levels, but only with certain types of posts. In 2019, photos accounted for nearly half of the top 10,000 Facebook posts while native video (not live video) accounted for the second-largest share of the top 10,000 posts.

Why you should care: With all the buzz and growing popularity of Live Video, Facebook Business Pages (and your school’s Facebook page) are still seeing the greatest engagement with photo posts, not video. This could be a result of businesses not having the resources to post video as often as photos, but goes to show the greater power of high quality photos to convert audiences when compared to typical link posts and low quality video.
