Tom Addonizio
Tom Addonizio serves as the vice president for University Communications and chief marketing officer for the University of Richmond. Appointed in 2022, he leads efforts to increase institutional awareness and highlight the many accomplishments of students, faculty, staff, and alumni. He has overall responsibility for communications and media relations, marketing and digital engagement, and design and creative services and works collaboratively across the University’s five schools and multiple operating units to continually grow and strengthen the University’s reputation. Addonizio is a member of the president’s cabinet and sits on several cross-university committees and project teams. During his time at University of Richmond, he has reorganized the communications and marketing teams to ensure coverage of key functional disciplines and has actively worked to expand opportunities to collaborate with communicators, faculty, staff and students across the University community. He is active in the Richmond region and frequently engages with community leaders and sits on the board of directors for Junior Achievement of Central Virginia. Prior to joining UR, Addonizio was associate dean for communications, marketing, and integration for Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations. In his five years at Cornell, he made a significant impact leading the school’s crisis communications through the COVID-19 pandemic, launching marketing efforts that helped grow enrollments in professional education, and rebranding the school in a collaborative effort across the entire school community. Before Cornell, Addonizio served as a vice president at New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire. He also had a successful 20-year career in the corporate world, serving as a vice president in roles at IBM and Gartner, where he led large global teams. Addonizio holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Binghamton University and an M.B.A. in finance and marketing from Penn State University. He is married to Kate Addonizio, and they have two children.
