About the Episode

Host Carrie connects with Jen Brock to discuss navigating uncertainty and ambiguity as a leader and employee. Jen shares actionable insights on staying present, reframing uncertainty as an opportunity, and using discomfort as a catalyst for personal and professional growth. This conversation offers empowering advice for anyone looking to thrive during challenging times.

Key Takeaways

  • Stay present in the moment: Focus on what’s in front of you rather than projecting fears of the unknown.
  • Reframe uncertainty as opportunity: Use ambiguous situations to step up and grow.
  • Ask questions and embrace discomfort: Trust your leaders and seize moments to assert yourself.

How can leaders and employees stay grounded during uncertain times?

Jen emphasizes the importance of focusing on what’s directly in front of you, avoiding the trap of spiraling into past negative experiences or "what if" scenarios. By concentrating on the present, leaders and employees can approach challenges with clarity and composure, ensuring they don’t lose sight of their priorities.

What mindset shifts help navigate uncertainty effectively?

Reframing uncertainty as an opportunity rather than a threat is key. Jen suggests leaning into ambiguity, which opens doors to explore new possibilities and perspectives. Instead of seeing uncertainty as paralyzing, it can be viewed as a chance to grow and step into leadership roles.

How can employees make the most of uncertain times?

Ambiguity levels the playing field, presenting opportunities to step up and contribute in new ways. Jen encourages employees to ask questions of their leaders, even if all the answers aren’t immediately available. She also advises taking proactive steps to assert oneself, emphasizing the value of seizing moments to showcase initiative and leadership potential.
