About the Episode

In this podcast episode of The Enrollify Podcast, recorded Live from AMA,  Zach Busekrus sits down with Jenny Li Fowler, the Director of Social Media Strategy at MIT to discuss the future of organic social strategy in higher education.

Jenny shares her experience and insights on organic social media, emphasizing its continued relevance despite perceptions that it's losing ground to paid strategies. She introduces her new book, Organic Social Media: How to Build Flourishing Online Communities, which focuses on transferring knowledge about social media strategy based on her experiences and learnings.

In this episode, Zach and Jenny discuss Jenny's "six M's of social media" - Mission, Message, Management, Medium, Metrics, and Monitoring - and chat about the importance of strategy over tactics in choosing the right channels for social media engagement.

Furthermore, Jenny talks about the "three scroll rule" - a strategy ensuring diversity and representation in MIT's social media content, ensuring that within three scrolls, a follower can see a comprehensive story of the institution.

Finally, the podcast touches on the future of social media, with Jenny predicting a shift towards more "owned spaces" as opposed to "rented spaces" on existing social media platforms. She believes that this shift will provide a safer and more controlled environment for content.
